Bell ringing is a very peculiar kind of musical art that resonates in the soul of every Russian person. Unfortunately, there was a period in the history of Russia when the ringing of bells was forbidden, and there were practically no masters of this sacred music left. However, now there is an intensive training of new bell ringers.

Step 1
On the territory of Russia there are several educational institutions that train church bell ringers. The most famous are in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan. The term of study in them is about 2 months, recruitment is carried out almost every month.
Step 2
For admission to most schools, you need to be Orthodox, it is desirable to have some experience in parish life. However, not all schools are jealous of the confession of applicants. Music education is not required for admission, because bell ringing is a very special kind of music.
Step 3
As a rule, the training program for the bell ringer includes acquaintance with the history and technology of bell production, information about the design and equipment of bell towers, musical interpretation of bell ringing, the order of ringing in the context of Orthodox worship, practical exercises at educational belfries, and visits to operating bell towers. In church schools, the program also includes liturgy and church singing.
Step 4
Some time ago, a computer training program was developed at the Arkhangelsk Bell Art Center, which makes it possible to conduct distance learning. The program includes over 30 basic bell chimes with thousands of possible combinations. The visual part of the program enables the student to delve into all the subtleties of the bell playing technique. The program is distributed free of charge. In addition, online training can be completed by registering on the website of the Moscow School of Church Bell Ringers.
