In order to make a pencil holder with your own hands, you need a base - a small jar or glass. When decorating the base, you can get a variety of pencil holders - colorful and cute for a children's table or strict for an office.
Salt dough pencil
With the help of salt dough, you can make interesting pencil holders with animal faces. First, prepare the base - it is better to take a plastic cup. Don't worry if the base is too light and the pencils fall off - the salt dough will make it more stable. To make the dough, you need fine salt, flour, and water. Proportion: 2 cups salt, 1 cup flour. Mix ingredients and add water in small portions. As soon as you get the plastic mass, the dough is ready. If too much water has been added and the dough becomes runny, just add flour.
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of 3-4 mm. Take your base and gently wrap the dough around it. If the dough breaks, moisten your fingers with water and cover the crack with a piece of dough. For a smoother surface, smooth any irregularities with wet fingers.
Now you need to blind the animal's face. For example, let's say you decide to make a pig's face. Take a piece of dough and roll it into a ball. Flatten it and make 2 holes. This will be a patch. After moistening the back of the patch with water, attach it to the pencil holder about the middle. Make eyes out of the balls. You can also make ears - for this, roll out the dough and cut out the ears with a knife. Shape and attach to the edges of the pencil holder.
After you have made the muzzle, the dough needs to be dried. You can dry in the oven, but it is better to do it in the sun. This will avoid cracks. Place your pencil in a warm and dry place, after a day or 2 the dough will dry. After that, use sandpaper to remove any irregularities and roughness, if any. The pencil holder can now be painted. Acrylic paints work well - they are bright and suitable for painting almost any surface. If desired, after painting, you can varnish the pencil holder.
Twine pencil
For work, you will need PVA glue, twine and a base for a pencil holder (glass or jar). Glue the end of the twine to the bottom edge of your warp and begin wrapping it gently. Try to avoid gaps. When you get to the top edge, cut the rope and glue the tip. Apply a thin layer of PVA glue all over the pencil holder for extra strength. To make the top more attractive, make a braid with twine and glue it at the edge. This pencil holder looks very stylish. If you do not really like the color of the twine, then you can paint the finished work with acrylic paints.
