Long gone are the medieval times, when knightly armor was an everyday attribute of people's lives - today they are considered exotic vestments that are used in historical reconstruction, theatrical performances and other costumed performances. You can try to craft a knight's helmet with a visor with your own hands.
Instructions
Step 1
Use 2mm sheet steel to make the helmet. Cut out steel blanks according to the previously created template, and then hit the blank with a sledgehammer along the entire perimeter line on a large diameter pipe. Hit the steel sheet with the sledgehammer, directing the blows from the edges to the center of the workpiece.
Step 2
Then place the workpiece on a hemispherical shape and beat off the edges of the metal on which small folds have formed with a one-sided straightening hammer. Beat both workpieces alternately so that they are perfectly even and symmetrical.
Step 3
Striking the workpieces with a hammer, achieve a small hemispherical bulge on their surface and then take a small diameter pipe and a small sledgehammer. Work the edge of the workpiece in this way, directing the blows from the frontal part to the back of the head through the crown to form a bend in the edge and form a spherical appearance of the edge of the joining of the parts.
Step 4
Work the halves of the workpieces with a straightening hammer so that their surface becomes even. Fold the parts into a tapered shape, then try to fit them together. The halves of the helmet should fit smoothly and tightly. File the joints of the halves with a file and sandpaper, remove the protrusions, eliminate the cracks.
Step 5
Weld the helmet inside and out with a welding machine. Then grind the outside of the helmet with a grinding wheel and polish it by hand with a fine sandpaper. Trim the bottom edge of the helmet and drill a series of holes along the bottom edge to secure the liner.
Step 6
To make the visor, cut out the steel blank and mark the places for the eye sockets on it. Roll the visor into a conical funnel using a pipe of the correct diameter. Use a small sledgehammer to knock out the eye sockets of the desired shape. Punch holes for the eyes with a chisel and file the edges of the holes. Then drill the vents and attach the visor to the helmet using the hinges.
