First and foremost advice for novice left-handed guitarists: remember, you are not deprived of the opportunity to play "Blood Type" or masterly improvise in flamenco style. Many of the greatest guitarists were left-handed: Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Tony Iommi, Kurt Cobain, to name a few. Of course, at first, playing the guitar can be fraught with some difficulties, but they can be easily dealt with. For left-handed people, there are several ways to get involved in the art of playing the guitar.

Playing the "right-handed" guitar

There is a fairly widespread opinion, including among left-handed guitarists, that it is actually easier for left-handers to play an ordinary guitar. This is motivated as follows: the hand on the bar performs more delicate and precise work, it requires high coordination and sufficient endurance, and the leading hand is perfect for this role. The hand on the deck is given a secondary importance, as if hitting the strings is a simple matter.

Rearranging strings

Perhaps the most common adaptation. The idea is simple - swap the strings in such a way that the thickest string is on the bottom, swapping places with the thinnest, the second with the fifth and the third with the fourth. In some cases, it is also necessary to remove and unfold the nut - a guitar element located in front of the beginning of the frets, in which special slots are made for more reliable fixation of the strings.

After all these operations, the instrument is turned over symmetrically in such a way that the right hand is on the neck, and the left is on the deck, as a result of which the border between the "left-handed" and "right-handed" guitarists is completely erased. By the way, this method was used by one of the greatest guitarists of our time, the magnificent left-hander Jimi Hendrix.

Buying a special guitar

And, finally, the most expensive among the above methods is to buy a special guitar for left-handers. In fact, it is a reflection of an ordinary guitar, all its elements are mirrored in relation to the elements of the "right" guitar. If we are talking about an electric guitar, the cord is on the left, the volume control is on top, and the strings, respectively, are stretched in the opposite order.

Thus, if you intend to practice the acoustic guitar, then the least expensive method will be the second of the above - a simple rearrangement of the strings, because a left-handed guitar, due to its rarity, is more expensive.
