Artificial stone countertops last much longer than laminated chipboard or other materials. If you have marble chips or rubble, you can make a stone countertop of the required size yourself.
It is necessary
- - glass or mirror with an area of 65x205 cm;
- - wooden blocks 20x40 mm;
- - plasticine 200 grams;
- - finely ground marble crushed stone;
- - cement M-400 and higher;
- - hot melt glue or ordinary glue "Titan";
- - corrugated reinforcement 4-6 mm;
- - knitting steel wire;
- - sunflower oil.
Instructions
Step 1
Lay glass or mirror on a strictly horizontal flat surface, amalgam down. Please note that there should be no gaps, bulges or sagging between the glass and the table surface. Make sure the glass is tight to the surface.
Step 2
Take two sticks 60 cm long and two sticks 2 m long. Sand them so that they are smooth and free of burrs.
Step 3
Attach them to the glass so that you get a rectangle with right angles. You make the formwork for its subsequent filling with mortar.
Step 4
Cut 20 identical segments from a 20x40 mm timber, 3 - 5 cm long. These are formwork stops. Glue them to the glass so that the formwork rests against the end of each bar and does not move during the pouring of the mortar. Let the mold dry.
Step 5
While the mold is drying, prepare the potting solution. To do this, take cement and marble chips and mix them together in a ratio of 1:10, adding water. Color the mixture with concrete pigments to ensure the desired color. You should have a solution that resembles sour cream or batter in density.
Step 6
When the formwork is dry, take the clay and lay it around the perimeter of the formwork on the inside. This is how you shape the edge of the future stone countertop. In order for the edge to turn out smooth, level the clay with one scraper of the desired shape.
Step 7
Lubricate the formwork with the thinnest layer of sunflower oil. Pour the first layer of mortar to the middle of the height of the bar.
Step 8
While the first layer dries, prepare the reinforced mesh. To do this, take several straight pieces of reinforcement 198 cm long and several pieces of reinforcement 58 cm long and use a knitting wire to connect them crosswise. You should have a 50x50 mm mesh. Place this mesh on the first poured layer and lightly press down on it with your fingers, just so that it does not touch the glass anywhere and is in the same plane. Pour the second layer of mortar to the very top of the formwork and remove the excess with a spatula.
Step 9
Once completely dry, remove the formwork, turn over the homemade stone countertop and sand the surface so that the marble inclusions begin to protrude.
