Glitter, applied to light areas of an image for an effect often used for avatars, greeting cards, and web design details, is most often made from brushprints with tuned dynamics. If desired, these glitters can be painted using other Photoshop tools.

It is necessary

  • - Photoshop program;
  • - background image.

Instructions

Step 1

Typically, glitter is applied over areas of the finished picture. Open a suitable image in a graphics editor and add a new layer to the file by pressing Ctrl + Shift + N.

Step 2

Select the Pen Tool and switch it to Paths mode by clicking on the button in the Options bar, which can be found under the main menu. Place two anchor points by double-clicking on an open document. The distance between the anchor points will correspond to the length of the two opposite beams of the sequin. At the stage of creating the base of the drawing, it makes sense to make long rays. You can reduce the size of the resulting image at the end of the work.

Step 3

Add a stroke to the created vector line. To do this, turn on the Brush tool and adjust its diameter. Use the shade of the glitter as the base color.

Step 4

Open the Paths palette, click on the only layer that showed up there, and select the Stroke Path option from the context menu. Select Brush in the dialog box. To make the ends of the rays thinner than the middle, check the Simulate Pressure checkbox. After completing the stroke, you can delete the layer in the Paths palette.

Step 5

Go back to the layers palette and duplicate the resulting ray with the Layer via Copy option in the New group of the Layer menu. Using the Rotate option in the Transform group of the Edit menu, rotate the copy of the rays perpendicular to the original layer. Merge the layers of the resulting glitter using the Merge Down option of the Layer menu.

Step 6

In order to add more rays to the sparkle, duplicate the layer with the resulting shape and rotate it relative to the original image so that the rays of the copy are between the rays of the original. Reduce the size of the second glitter using the Scale option in the Transform group of the Edit menu. Use the Move Tool to move the second sparkle so that its center coincides with the intersection of the rays of the original layer.

Step 7

Add shine to the glitter. To do this, copy the layer with large rays and apply a Gaussian Blur filter from the Blur group of the Filter menu to the copy. Adjust the blur radius so that a subtle glow appears around the rays, formed by semi-transparent pixels.

Step 8

Reduce the glitter, while selecting all the layers of which it is composed. If you want to overlay several sparkles on the picture, create the required number of duplicates of the resulting star and move them to the light areas of the background with the Move Tool. Merge all the copies of the large rays into one layer, merge all the duplicates of the second pair of rays into another layer. Collect copies of the shine on the third layer. As a result, you should be left with a background layer and three glitter layers.

Step 9

The work on the static picture is finished. To get animated sparkles, turn on the animation palette with the Animation option of the Window menu. Add another frame by clicking on the thumbnail at the bottom of the palette. Turn off the shine and reduced rays layers in the layers palette.

Step 10

To make the sparkles more effective, create another frame. Turn off the visibility of the layer with large rays and shine in the edited image. Specify the animation frame duration in the box at the bottom of each frame.

Step 11

To save the picture as an animated image, use the Save for Web option of the File menu, choosing the gif format. You can save a static picture as a.jpg"
