Donka is considered a traditional fishing tackle for catching crucian carp. Although in its classical form, it is used extremely rarely. The fact is that the donk, equipped with a heavy lead sinker, thick fishing line and several leashes, is rather rude for catching such picky, timid and cautious fish like crucian carp. That is why experienced anglers use slightly modified versions of this fishing tackle when fishing for crucian carp.
Features of catching crucian carp on a donk
The most favorable conditions for catching crucian carp on a donk are cold inclement weather, a deep body of water and a strong current.
Experienced fishermen are advised to pay attention to the bottom of the reservoir when fishing for crucian carp. If it is covered with silt, the chosen bait should not lie motionless, it is better if it is at a distance of several centimeters from the bottom.
Under such conditions, it will not be superfluous to use crucian boilies, as close as possible to the composition of the main complementary foods. To ensure buoyancy of the bait, anglers tie it to a hook on a hair, the role of which is played by a black, brown or green fishing line woven from several thin fibers.
If you have chosen a body of water with solid ground for catching crucian carp, the bait should not differ from the pieces of the bait mixture either in composition, or in color, or in smell. In this case, you do not need to use a feeder. Just remember to periodically replace the lure that has swollen in the water with fresh bait.
Donka for crucian carp with a feeder
Many fishermen do not think of catching crucian carp on a donk without using a feeder bought in a fishing store or made by hand. The feeder is attached to the fishing line and fixed on it with a pellet so that it can easily slide if necessary. It is also necessary to supplement the tackle with 1-2 leads. You can use fishing weights to make the line heavier.
The next step will be to fill the wire spiral forming a kind of mesh with a viscous, but at the same time, water-eroded feed. The most popular delicacy for crucian carp among modern fishermen is a mixture of various cereals, cake and rusks. If, in preparation for catching crucian carp on the donk, you notice that the bottom of the reservoir is too muddy, lengthen the leashes and put on one of them (the one that is located just above the hook) a foam ball with a through hole previously made in it. Fix the ball with a cambric.
Catching crucian carp on a donk with an elastic band
An equally effective variation of fishing tackle for crucian carp is considered to be a donka with a rubber shock absorber, popularly referred to as a "rubber band". Its length can vary from 1.5 to 2.5 m. The main advantage of this method of fishing is the ability to use several hooks at once, the number of which does not exceed the permissible norms.
The principle of catching crucian carp with a rubber band is extremely simple. From the boat, lower the load tied to one of the ends of the elastic to the bottom of the reservoir. Tie a rope to it with a float attached to it, which at any time can point you to the location of the tackle. Connect the other end of the elastic to the fishing line, previously equipped with leashes with fishing hooks attached to them. To attract crucian carp, some fishermen often use a mesh feeder with complementary foods at the location of the tackle.
