The ceremony of announcing the winners of the MTV Video Music Awards 2012 took place in Los Angeles, USA on the evening of September 6. Astronaut statuettes with the flag of the most famous music channel on the planet were awarded in 16 nominations, among which there was a novelty - Most Shareworthy Video. The winner in each of them was selected from five finalists.
The main award MTV (Video of the Year - "Best Video of the Year") went to Rihanna's video We Found Love. It is noteworthy that among the other four applicants there was one more work with her participation - a video for the song Take Care performed by a duet with rapper Drake. Another rapper, Lil Wayne, paired Drake for another duo, and their joint music video Hell Ya Fuckin Right (HYFR) was more fortunate - he won the Best Hip-Hop Video nomination.
The collection of the largest number of MTV figurines this year was collected by the British boy band One Direction. Their music video What Makes You Beautiful received awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Video and Most Popular Video on the Web. One less statuette was awarded to an English Tamil woman known as M. I. A. and an American Chris Brown. Music video for Bad Girls M. I. A. was noted for the high professionalism of the creators - the best cinematography and the best directing, and the work of Chris Brown, Turn Up the Music, was named the most outstanding male video clip of the year and, in addition, was awarded for the highest quality of choreography.
The rapper Niki Minaj with the Starships music video won the Best Female Video nomination. In the category of rock videos, the British from the Coldplay group became the best, who shot a video with the song Paradise, and in the section of dance music (Best Electronic Dance Music Video), the victory was given to the Scotsman Calvin Harris with the work Feel So Close. American Demi Lovato's Skyscraper won the Best Video With a Message award, and her compatriot Katy Perry's Wide Awake received a statuette from MTV for her work as a production designer. For the best work of the editor, the video of Beyoncé Countdown was awarded, and the music channel found the most outstanding visual effects in the work of First of the Year (Equinox) by the brostep musician Skrillex.
