You can make a human figure out of clay in different ways. Which one to choose depends on your skill and the expected result of sculpting - whether it will be a figure anatomically close to the human structure or a stylized, artistic image.
It is necessary
- - clay;
- - tools for sculpting (stacks, wire, plank).
Instructions
Step 1
Check out the proportions of the human body. The more accurately the figure you want to sculpt, the more important this point is for you. This can be done according to the anatomical atlas. Remember the ratio of the sizes of body parts, pay attention to which large muscles create the relief of the human body on the back, legs, arms.
Step 2
Take prepared, already wet, modeling clay. Keep it in your hands a little and beat it off to get rid of the air in the mass of clay. Clay modeling often requires a plinth - the base on which the figure is placed. It can be of any shape, for example, in the form of a stone on which a person sits, in the form of a relief plate, in the form of a pedestal.
Step 3
Constructive sculpting method. Sculpt individual parts of the body, starting with the largest ones (torso, head, limbs). Blind the head from a rolled ball. Using a stack (curly sculptor) on the head, shape the eye sockets, cheekbones, nose, mouth and then bring them to the desired accuracy and perfection. Stretch your neck slightly at the bottom of your head.
Step 4
Sculpt the body from an oval piece of clay. You can make a cone from a piece of clay, or you can sculpt the chest, waist and pelvis in more detail. In the torso, use a special round at the end of the stack to make indentations for the arms and legs.
Step 5
Sculpt your arms and legs from rolled "sausages". They do not need to be detailed, but only palms and fingers can be distinguished. It can even be very detailed by applying clay in the right places to create muscle (sculpting). Sculpt small details last. To create them, use the methods of pulling or pinching the clay, pulling a small part of the total piece with your fingers to the desired size.
Step 6
Join parts as you make them. To prevent the parts of the body from falling off during drying, it is necessary to tightly join the parts or insert them into the prepared recesses and cover them with clay using a stack. It is also recommended that you first slightly scratch the joints with a toothbrush or use small pieces of matches or toothpicks to connect the parts.
Step 7
Plastic sculpting method. Sculpt a human figure from a single piece of clay by stretching body parts or carving them to remove excess clay. In this case, the sculpture is molded from the bottom up. This method is more complicated, as it requires a developed eye and a clear understanding of the proportions of the human body. But you can combine both sculpting methods, making, for example, the head and chest from a monolithic piece of clay, and the arms and legs in separate parts.
Step 8
A human figure with a height of more than 10 cm requires a frame, otherwise it will not retain its shape. Prepare the wire cage in the desired position, attach it to the stand. The wire must be flexible and strong at the same time. For better fixing of clay to the frame, the main wire should be wrapped in not very frequent turns of another, maybe thinner, wire. When the frame is ready, stick it with clay, shaping it with your fingers and stack the desired shape.
