For individual tailoring, you must first of all choose and buy the right material. Modern fabric stores are filled with all kinds of products, both domestic and imported. How to choose and calculate the right fabric for the thing you like?
Instructions
Step 1
Usually the width of the fabric in the store is 150 cm, which greatly simplifies and reduces the cost of the sewing process. In addition, the pattern and texture of the fabric presupposes a “jack” cut, i.e. layout of patterns "upside down".
However, there are fabrics with a width of 75 cm and 90 cm. In addition, it should be borne in mind that on pile fabrics, velvet, velor, fur, suede, velveteen, patterns should be laid out only in one direction, in the direction of the pile. Vertical patterns also require a one-sided layout. And for fabrics in a cage, an additional fit of the pattern is necessary.
Step 2
How do you determine the right amount of fabric? There is one very simple way. You can take a pattern of the product and lay it out on an unnecessary piece of fabric 150 cm wide. Then measure the resulting length and feel free to go to the store. However, you may like the fabric in other widths. What then? Everything is very simple. You need to proceed from the width of the fabric and your size.
Step 3
Take your measurements carefully.
Choose a fabric.
If the fabric has a width of 90-100 cm, then for a dress set aside on the material one length of the front bodice, one length of the back bodice, one sleeve length, two or three skirt lengths (depending on the style). Add allowances for seams of 1, 5-2 cm in the side, 5-10 cm at the bottom of the skirt and bodice, add all these dimensions, the result will be the amount of material required.
Step 4
If the width of the material is 150 cm, then take the length of the front bodice, the length of the skirt and the length of the sleeve, plus seam allowances and additional details.
If you want to sew trousers, then for a fabric width of 150 cm, take one length of trousers plus allowances for seams and a belt.
