Preliminary measurements
Before making blinds from the remnants of wallpaper, it is necessary to carefully measure the window where the curtains will be located. The width of the blinds must correspond to the width of the window, and the length must be taken a quarter more than the value obtained during measurement. In the future, this stock of length will be needed when folding the wallpaper with an accordion. It is necessary to prepare a narrow satin ribbon or any other beautiful braid or cord of the same length to control the finished curtain.
Blinds manufacturing
A rectangle is cut out of the remnants of the wallpaper using a clerical knife, the dimensions of which correspond to measurements. If there is a complex pattern on the wallpaper, it is important to ensure that it is not crooked or ugly cut off - this can ruin the overall look of the finished curtains.
After that, the wallpaper canvas begins to collect with a neat accordion. The optimal width of each fold is 4-5 cm. To make the folds even, it is recommended to pre-mark the workpiece with a pencil and a ruler. To strengthen the upper part of the curtain, it is necessary to glue together the last two folds of the wallpaper - this measure will provide the blinds with the necessary strength and will allow them to withstand long-term operation.
On the paper web assembled with an accordion, the middle is determined and a through hole is made with the help of a sharp awl or hole punch. The blinds look very beautiful if you use a hole punch that makes a figured hole in the form of a flower, a leaf of a tree, a heart, etc. On the inside, the holes can be reinforced with tape, and then punch these places again with a hole punch. A cord is carefully threaded through the holes, at the top of the curtain it is tied to a strong knot and fixed with double-sided tape. The adhesive tape must be glued across the entire width of the canvas: in this way the curtain will be fixed to the frame or in the window opening.
If desired, through holes can be made not along the central part of the blinds, but along both edges, as is done in factory-made curtains. In this case, you will need another piece of tape or string to control the blinds. A cord is threaded through the holes, its end is brought out to the front side, the blinds are straightened. The lower ends of the cord are provided with clamps. To raise the curtain, you just need to pull the catch up to close the window - the catch is lowered down the cord.
Blinds decoration
The bottom of the finished paper curtain can be left flat or shaped like a fan. To do this, 5-6 lower folds of the blinds are bent in the middle and glued together in the form of a semicircle. The end of the cord can be decorated with a bright bead or other decorative element.
