One of the most interesting predatory plants that can be grown at home is the Venus flytrap. Despite its exoticism, it is quite easy to care for, although there are several rules that the owner should strictly follow.
The Venus flytrap is a rather capricious plant, therefore, in order for it to please the owners, some breeding rules should be followed.
The time of purchase is very important for the plant. You should not "disturb" the Venus flytrap from the end of September to April-May, since a hibernation period begins for a flower at this time and when "awakened" it may die. If the purchase took place at this time, it is necessary to put the plant in a cool room (window sill, balcony) with a temperature of 10-15 ° C.
It is worth watering the plant only from the pallet (in no case from the top), once every 2-3 days. The soil should be slightly damp, but not flooded with water, since in this case the acidity increases very much, leading to the death of the flycatcher.
The Venus flytrap loves direct sunlight (at least 4 hours of bright sunlight or lamps per day), so keep the flower pot on the sunny side.
A very characteristic feature of the flycatcher is the collapsing leaves, with which the plant catches insects for food. They cannot be forced to shut down "in vain." If you really want to show the mechanism of catching, then it is better to put an insect (mosquito, small fly) inside the trap and let the plant catch it on its own. It is worth remembering that the "blank" closure of the traps provoke a colossal release of energy and the flower can die. The plant eats no more than 3-4 times in the warm season, that is, approximately 1 time per month.
