Knitting is a favorite hobby of many women, and some of them want not only to give joy by creating quality handmade items for themselves and their loved ones, but also to make their hobby a source of income. Perhaps this will be only a small increase to the budget for a woman on maternity leave, but for some, knitting to order becomes the main source of income.

Before you start knitting to order, you need to decide how much this painstaking creative work costs. There is no fixed price for hand-made products and cannot be: each craftswoman decides for herself how to evaluate her work. But still, there are several ways to roughly find out the cost of your work.

Piece-work payment

Of course, the payment for knitting will be piecework anyway. The point is that the price of a thing will depend on how much yarn the knitter has used up, on the way the product is made, and other factors. But first things first.

To begin with, the main knitting method is assessed:

- for the front surface with knitting needles, the price is set at 2.7 rubles. for each meter of yarn consumed;

- for a simple crocheted canvas - 2, 9 rubles; for machine knitting - 3 thousand rubles. for each kilometer of yarn used;

- if the thing is knitted with motives, the knitter can request from 3 rubles. for each meter of yarn consumed;

- for making a product using the Irish lace technique - from 5 rubles.

It is clear that both motives and Irish knitting can be of different complexity, so the craftswoman will set the price per meter of thread in a particular product at her discretion.

Further, the calculation of the work proceeds on the basis of the "complication factors", i.e. taking into account various factors that make the knitter's work more painstaking:

- If the pattern is simple, then the cost of yarn consumption is multiplied by a factor of 1, 4.

- If the product contains several patterns, for each subsequent one, another factor of 1, 09 is added.

- For knitting complex patterns, a coefficient of 1, 3 is added.

- Jacquard patterns are considered especially difficult to make, and for each additional color a coefficient of 1, 2 is added

Tying individual parts of the product also adds additional factors to the cost of the work:

- knitting the neckline - 1, 3

- knitting a single plank - 1, 3

- double knitted strap - 1, 5

- double plank, tied separately - 1, 7

The cost of the product depends on the color and quality of the yarn. It is more difficult to knit from dark threads, eyes get tired more, therefore, for the use of dark yarn, a coefficient of 1, 5 is added. The yarn obtained after the product is unfolded is more difficult to work than new, therefore, if the product is knitted from such threads, a coefficient of 1, 5 is added.

There are more knots and breaks on the yarn obtained after the product has been unfolded, so it is more difficult to work with.

If a craftswoman creates an author's product, and does not repeat an already known model, then she has the right to request an additional 50% of its total cost - after all, she also had to work as a fashion designer.

And, of course, the cost of the yarn is also paid by the customer.

Hourly payment

However, many craftswomen believe that the above calculation makes the knitted product too expensive and prefer to calculate the cost of their work based on the time spent on making this or that knitted item.

For the calculation, the average wage is taken, adopted in the region where the craftswoman plans to sell her products and is divided by the standard working time in hours per month (on average 167 hours). It turns out the average pay for an hour of work.

Next, the craftswoman takes into account how much real time she spent on making a knitted item and multiplies the result by the average hourly wage. The cost of the yarn is added to this amount and the price of the finished product is obtained.
