Instructions

Step 1

When choosing fins, pay special attention to the cost of the product, do not chase after cheapness. Increasingly, shops and markets are offering Chinese plastic equipment that will not last long and in limited conditions. Cheap fins are usually either very hard or too soft (you will swim easily in them, but slowly). In addition, with soft fins it is very difficult to pull out of the depth or against the current. Remember, high-quality spearfishing equipment cannot cost less than one and a half to two thousand rubles (specialized ones start from two and a half thousand rubles).

Step 2

The blades of many types of fins have cuts, holes and inserts made of elastic material, but these technologies are not always applicable for spearfishing. Since the cuts allow you to swim with little effort, and the energy is removed from the blades more slowly, you will be able to develop speed in such conditions only after a certain period of time after starting work. The most successful are fins with a straight classic blade.

Step 3

In the production of blades, new composite materials began to be used, which should be given special attention: carbon, fiberglass and polycarbonate (but the price of these new products is high). Fins are divided into two types: with an open heel and with overshoes. But since you are looking for spearfishing equipment, you should not buy fins with a closed heel (it should be an open galosh with a strap at the back).

Step 4

Buy neoprene socks and go for a fitting (keep in mind that 3mm socks increase the size of fins by 1-2 sizes, 5mm by 2-3 sizes, 7mm by 3-4 sizes). Put on a fin and check if there is pressure from the edges or on the foot, on the toe, and if the heel is falling off. Raise your leg and shake the fin in different directions, it should hold tight and not fall off. If all is well, you can safely buy them.

Step 5

Long fins (more than 80 centimeters) are not recommended for spearfishing in certain conditions: in reeds and in shallow water. But in them it is very convenient to dive to great depths and move in the water column.
