If the question of purchasing fins has arisen for diving to depth, and not for working on the water surface, opt for adjustable open heel fins. It is this type of "underwater shoe" that provides a rather powerful driving force when swimming in the water column, but when swimming closer to the water surface, such fins are ineffective.

If fins are needed for swimming near the surface of the water, choose models with a closed heel. These fins are most comfortable for snorkeling. But due to their design features, their jerk movements are significantly weaker than models with an open heel.

For professional scuba diving, choose compound rubber fins. They are made of several components, usually rubber overshoes and plastic blades. Providing powerful driving force, these fins allow you to tirelessly cover long distances under water. With active movements of the legs, the blades are deformed creating an arc channel through which a significant amount of water passes and is pushed out, which gives acceleration to the diver's body.

If the purchase of fins is associated with the need for high-speed movement under water, then purchase long plastic high-speed fins. Their purpose is more of a sport, so for those who like scuba diving, this is not the best choice.
Step 5
For swimming in the pool, you should purchase short rubber and plastic fins. Their distinctive feature is their maneuverability, which is why they are used by photographers and diving instructors. The main disadvantage of these fins is that the legs get tired quickly and are unsuitable for long-term diving.
Step 6
When choosing fins by price category, remember that thermoplastic fins are much cheaper than their rubber counterparts. However, the driving force of such fins is weaker than that of multi-piece, made of rubber and plastic, and the rubber overshoes of the latter allows them to better stay on the foot. Graphite fiber, which is used by some manufacturers in the manufacture of fins, increases their cost even more, but the jogging efficiency during swimming increases significantly from this.
