The flute is a rather melodic and beautiful instrument. After all, this is not just a tube with holes. In some cases, it is also a piece of art. Craftsmen and craftsmen cover homemade flutes with decorative carvings to create flutes that can be put up for sale in an antique store. We will not teach you how to carve a flute. Let's better talk about how you can make the flute itself with your own hands.

It is necessary

  • Open flame (fire or gas torch, for example) to heat up a steel rod;
  • The steel rod itself with a diameter of at least 12 mm;
  • A potholder or piece of rough cloth;
  • Fine-toothed hacksaw for metal;
  • Fine-grained skin;
  • Drill with a diameter of 6 mm;
  • Pliers;
  • Marker;
  • Old bamboo fishing rod;
  • Linseed oil with a cloth;
  • Roulette.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut a piece of bamboo from a fishing rod with a length of 45-50 cm and a diameter of about 20-25 mm. We cut it off so that one end remains closed between the sections with a partition. We measure and mark the place for the first hole at a distance of 25 mm from the end of our bamboo blank. Now we measure 150 mm from the place of the first mark and make five more marks with indents of 25 mm.

Step 2

Take a steel bar and heat it over the fire. Do not forget about the potholder so as not to burn yourself. We insert this rod into the open part of the workpiece and push it so that it burns through everything except the last partition. In addition to unnecessary partitions, we will also get rid of excess fibers inside the bamboo.

Step 3

We heat the drill on fire, grabbing it with pliers. With a hot drill we burn out the holes in the bamboo in the places that we marked. If we try to drill holes, our bamboo may not withstand the stress and burst.

Step 4

Now we roll up the fine-grained skin with a tube and clean it from the inside of the bamboo blank all the coals and the remnants of individual fibers. And if the blowing hole is narrow, you can also increase it at the same time. Just don't overdo it.

Step 5

Cover the flute with a thin layer of linseed oil. Now we try to play: we place our fingers on six holes (three fingers from each hand) and blow into the entrance hole. With practice, we can try to remove one finger - we get a different sound. If you are completely unable to extract sounds from the flute, you can practice on an empty bottle. We touch the neck with the lower lip and blow into the bottle. To extract sounds from a flute follows the same principle. Don't worry if you can't play right away. This requires a certain skill that must first be developed.
