Modern software tools for digital audio processing provide truly wide possibilities and allow even the layman to do audio editing. Typical processing operations such as mixing are performed much more accurately and efficiently than analog equipment. So, you can combine two melodies with full or partial overlap by choosing the sound level of each track and the sound pairing curves at the joints.

Instructions
Step 1
Open one of the music files containing the melody to be merged in Sound Forge. If you just need to attach one melody to the end of another, then open the file that contains the first of the combined melodies.
Press Ctrl + Alt + F2 or Ctrl + O, or select File and Open from the main menu. The "Open" dialog will appear. Using the drop-down list "Folder" and the list with the listing of the current directory, go to the directory where the required file is located. Highlight the file and open it by clicking the "Open" button.
Step 2
Open the file containing the second of the merged melodies. Follow the steps similar to those described in the previous step. If you need to attach this melody to the end of the first one, check the Append to current data window box and after clicking the "Open" button, go to the seventh step.
Step 3
Select a fragment of the second melody that you want to connect with the first melody. In the Sound Forge document window, set a convenient scale for displaying the histogram using the + and - buttons located next to the scroll bar. Use your mouse to create a primary selection. Use the Selection section of the Edit menu to adjust the selection area. Listen to the selection by clicking on the Play Normal button. If you want to select the entire entry, select Edit and Select All from the menu.
Step 4
Copy the selection to the clipboard. Press Ctrl + C or click on the Copy item of the Edit menu.
Step 5
Select the position in the first melody with which you want to combine it with the second melody. Switch to the document window that was opened first. Set a convenient scale for displaying the histogram. Listen to the melody by pressing the Play Normal button. Stop listening at the desired point using the Stop button. Adjust the cursor position based on the timeline and histogram.
Step 6
Connect two tunes. Sequentially select the menu items Edit, Paste Special, "Mix …" or press Ctrl + M. In the Mix / Replace dialog set the melody mixing parameters. Click OK and wait for the audio dubbing process to finish.
Step 7
Save a copy of the edited melody. Press Alt + F2 or select File and "Save As …" from the main menu. Specify the format and compression parameters, as well as the name and directory for saving the output file. Click the Save button.
