The traditions of embroidery came to us from England, so the canvas number is determined by the number of cells per inch.
To begin with, carefully inspect the packaging of the canvas, the size on it should be indicated by the manufacturer. Most likely, you will see a similar inscription: 14 Count, 14, 5w x 20, 86h cm. 14 Count is 14 cells per inch. The designation 14, 5w x 20, 86h cm indicates, respectively, the width (width) and height (height) of the border in centimeters.
Step 2
If not packaged, measure the border with an inch ruler. To do this, carefully lay out the canvas on level ground, attach a ruler to it. Use pins to mark the length of the inch. Count the number of squares between the pins.
It should be noted that not every housewife has an inch ruler in the house. But getting out of this situation is very simple. Mark with pins 2, 54 cm - this will be an inch.
Step 3
The dimensions of the canvas, with which the craftswomen work especially often, can be easily calculated for the centimeter ruler. To do this, divide the canvas number by 2, 54 and multiply by 10.

In the "calibration" section, enter the counted number of cells per 10 cm, compare your canvas with the one shown on the monitor. Manipulate the "larger" and "smaller" buttons until the on-screen and real canvas match. Click the Finish button.
Step 5
There is also a canvas that does not have pronounced squares, which is simply a uniformly interwoven fabric. For such a canvas, the size is calculated according to the same principle.
First, decide how many threads along and across will be in one square. Next, mark one inch and count the number of squares in it. Now, knowing the size of the canvas, you can calculate the size of the embroidery. Don't forget about the hem.
