When you come to a sports store for skis, you will surely face the problem of how to choose the size of skis. What criteria should be taken into account, what parameters should be relied on?
Instructions
Step 1
When buying sports equipment, it is extremely important for a skier to correctly select the size of the skis. You can determine it by the height of the athlete himself. Just keep in mind that the size of skis largely depends on the purpose of their use.
Step 2
If you are looking for cross-country skis for classic skiing, then calculate the length of the skis according to the following rule: the length of the skis should be 20-30 cm longer than your height. Or use this formula: your height with your arm extended upwards is minus 10 cm.
Step 3
When choosing skis for skating, consider the size as follows: the athlete's height plus 10-15 cm. Today, many manufacturers offer shortened skating skis. Choose this option if you are just getting on skis - they are recommended for beginners.
Step 4
Also, there are some subtleties when choosing skiing. If you are buying alpine skis for a beginner or a more experienced athlete, then use the formula: person's height minus 10-15 cm. When buying sports alpine skis or slalom skis, proceed from the same rule. If you are choosing alpine skis for giant slalom or freeride, then consider this: the athlete's height is plus / minus 5 cm. The size of alpine skis also depends on your personal preferences in skiing style, namely: for an aggressive style - plus 2-3 cm, for a calmer one - minus 2-3 cm.
Step 5
When buying skis for kids, don't just rely on your child's height. Do not try to buy skis for your child to grow, as it will be simply inconvenient for a child to ride on such skis. It will also significantly slow down the learning process itself.
Step 6
Also rely on the child's age and weight. Toddler skis should reach to the elbows. If you are buying skis for an older preschool child, follow the same rules as buying skis for adults, but do not forget about the weight of the child. If it has a weight of 10-20 kg, then choose skis with a length of 70-80 cm, if a child's weight is 20-32 kg, then buy skis with a length of approximately 90 cm, skis with a length of 100 cm are suitable for children weighing 32-41 kg. For children weighing more than 41 kg, buy skis that reach the tip of the nose. And remember that for those who are just getting on skis, it is better to choose shorter models.
