Begonia is an elegant houseplant that can delight with its flowering all year round. It not only serves as a stunning decoration for the room, but also acts as an air purifier, absorbing harmful substances.
Begonia does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature, so in this regard, she needs to ensure stability. The optimum temperature for keeping a plant is approximately + 20-25 degrees in summer and +15 degrees in winter. It is not recommended to place begonia next to heating appliances. The plant should be placed on the eastern windowsill, where there is no direct sunlight.
Watering should be moderate. The plant is susceptible to fungal diseases, therefore, it should be watered only after the earthen coma has completely dried. It is undesirable to spray begonia, as the leaves can become stained and rot from the drops of water. However, the air around the plant needs to be humidified.
In order for begonia to acquire a beautiful and regular shape, it is periodically pruned.
The transplant is usually carried out in the spring, when flowering ends. The pot must be made of ceramic. It allows air to pass through well and does not allow waterlogging, which is fatal for begonia. At the bottom of the container, drainage is laid in the form of small pebbles or shells.
Begonia propagates by both seeds and cuttings. Cuttings in early summer are planted in fertile soil and covered with a glass jar. After about a month, when the plant takes root, it can be transplanted into a pot.
If the begonia care is regular and correct, it will delight you with lush and long flowering.
