Dill is a great candidate for growing on a balcony or windowsill.
Dill can be added to different dishes and from this they will only become tastier. Potatoes with dill are classics of the genre, but pasta, omelet, and almost any salad with dill will only become tastier.
Even for inexperienced gardeners, dill will grow beautifully on a balcony or windowsill from seeds. You just need to sow the seeds, and then remember to water and weed.
So, in order to grow dill on the windowsill, choose dill seeds in the store, purchase a box or a wide pot (or several), ordinary soil for indoor plants. For growing on a windowsill, both early ripening varieties and mid-ripening, late-ripening varieties are suitable. There are no special varieties for growing dill at home, so choose early varieties if you are anxious to get a real garden bed on the windowsill.
Helpful advice: on the seed packaging, the date of seed production and the period after which the seed germination will noticeably decrease should be indicated.
If you thoroughly approach the issue of growing dill on the windowsill, you can prepare garden soil in the fall, and in the spring, mix it with purchased soil for home plants. Before planting, dill seeds should be soaked for a day or two in warm water (or on a damp cloth).
You can sow dill seeds on the "bed" simply on top of the moistened soil, sprinkling it with peat mixed with earth, but you can also make grooves (about 1 cm deep). After sowing the dill, dust the seeds with soil from the edges of the grooves. Cover the pot or box with plastic wrap and put it in a dark place for a week.
Dill care involves watering; you can also feed the plantings with complex mineral fertilizers.
