In July, flower lovers have the opportunity to sow some perennials, the seeds of which do not have a long germination period and by the onset of the autumn-winter cold they will have time to give a good rosette and prepare for wintering.
What flowers can be sown by seeds in the ground?
At the beginning of July, it is not too late to sow perennial aster (alpine), aquilegia (catchment), pink pyrethrum, daisy (chamomile), delphinium, carnation - gerbil, Gaillardia, lychnis, mallow, erigeron.
Summer sowing feature
July is the hottest summer month. Heat and, as often happens, lack of rain, and, accordingly, low air humidity, and become the main problem in summer crops. Therefore, before sowing the seeds, you must choose the right place if the cultivation is planned in the beds. The place should be protected from the scorching sun, as the crops will simply dry out overnight. Be sure to pay attention to daily watering if it is dry and hot. It is necessary to water the crops carefully, trying not to erode the ground. It is also advisable to moisten the soil around crops with water to increase moisture.
It is better to sprinkle small seeds with a thin layer of vermiculite or perlite, which retains moisture, and do not use peat chips. It is permissible to sprinkle large seeds with loose soil.
Seedling care
Before emergence, the soil must be kept in moderate moisture. Do not allow the soil layer to dry out. After all, the seeds that have hatched immediately die at the first drying out of the soil. The rapid growth of seedlings in the summer heat is possible only with abundant watering. Watering is preferable in the morning, before the onset of heat.
When can you pick young seedlings?
It is possible to dive (transplant) the flower "youth" after the first or second true leaf has been extended. A later pick delays the development of plants.
Do I need to feed the seedlings?
In order for the flower seedlings to survive the dive safely and in the future the seedlings are strong, it can be fed the day before, before the dive in a few days, with small doses of nitrogen fertilizer. After rooting of the transplanted seedlings, a second fertilizing, nitrogen-potassium, is introduced. At the end of summer, in order to prepare perennials for wintering, a third feeding is carried out with a predominance of potassium and phosphorus. But such feeding is not necessary if the land is fertile and small seedlings grow well.
