It is necessary

  • - sandpaper;
  • - acrylic paint;
  • - brushes;
  • - PVA glue;
  • - paper napkins;
  • - fabric with a pattern;
  • - furniture varnish;
  • - glass;
  • - colored stones;
  • - beads; -shells; -steklyarus;
  • - tint film;
  • - LED Strip Light.

Instructions

Step 1

If the coffee table already has a solid experience of being in the apartment, first try to restore it. Remove the hardware and then use a grinder or sandpaper to remove the old coating. Then apply the acrylic background paint with a roller or wide brush. After it dries, stenciled patterns can be applied to the countertop or sidewalls - images of flowers, animals, plant or geometric motifs.

Step 2

To make your updated table look interesting, try to artificially age it. Use fine sandpaper to rub lightly in several places or, for example, in the corners of the table. Then take a golden or silver paint and an almost dry brush (squeeze the paint from it and blot it on a dry cloth) and paint over the worn areas a little.

Step 3

The second option for updating is using the decoupage technique. To do this, as in the previous case, you must first prepare the surface. You can stick ready-made paper napkins on the countertop or look for some unusual pictures cut from magazines. It's simple and fast. If you do not come across an image that you would like, try using interesting vintage images, which are now very common on the Internet. For example, old postcards, envelopes, photographs, old cards. Make a collage from the images you like in Photoshop and order a printout of a whole canvas according to the size of the table. It's a bit of a hassle, but you will benefit in quality. To glue the printout, use decoupage glue, wallpaper or PVA. After the glue has dried, cover the countertop with several coats of varnish.

Step 4

For work using decoupage technique, cotton fabric with a suitable pattern will also work. Fix it on the surface with PVA glue or special glue for decoupage. The finished item must be covered with acrylic varnish in several layers, because it absorbs well.

Step 5

An interesting table can be obtained by cutting out glass in the shape of the table, under which you can put some beautiful flat details (autumn leaves, patterns cut out of paper). For safety, clean the edges of the glass with a velvet file or emery bar.

Step 6

You can also place more voluminous things on the countertop - colored stones, beads, shells, bugles. To do this, attach sides to it, and divide the inner space with a lattice of slats. Fold interesting little things into the resulting cells, and cover it all with thick glass on top, processing its edges. By the way, instead of beads, shells and other things, you can put some collections in cells, for example, coins, buttons, badges, etc.

Step 7

You can also decorate a coffee table using LED strip lighting. It can be attached with double-sided tape to the legs or side surfaces of the countertop or glued to the countertop itself by placing tinted glass on top (you can tint it with a translucent film of any shade). Such a table will look modern and unusual. But in order to properly mount this backlight, you may have to invite a specialist.
