Home studio - a set of tools for semi-professional or amateur work with sound, video or graphics. In the case of a music studio (hereinafter we will talk about it), the number of studio devices includes: a computer, specialized devices and wires.
Instructions
Step 1
We start, of course, with a computer. Remember three main rules: the computer must be quiet, have a good sound card and plenty of free disk space. Let's go over the points briefly.
A computer in a studio is the main and most dangerous source of noise, so the total level of noise it emits should ideally not exceed 25-35 dB. This means that all coolers should be quiet - both on the processor, and on the case, and in the power supply. The video card is only passively cooled.
The sound card must be full-duplex, support ASIO and 5.1 (aka dolby surround), have an SPDIF connector and a high-speed fireware port.
You should install at least two hard drives (one for programs, the second for work results; the second with a volume of at least 500 Gb).
And by the way, a mid-level studio computer should be equipped with a processor with a frequency of at least 2 GHz and at least 2 Gb of RAM.
Step 2
Specialized devices are microphones, mixer, effects processor, and near-field monitors. You will definitely need microphones in the studio, you need to have at least four of them: a pair of identical condenser (with switchable directivity) and two different dynamic ones. With this set, in principle, you will solve most of the tasks solved at home. It is desirable that all microphones have a lower frequency response threshold of no more than 80 Hz. For a complete set, you can purchase a radio microphone with a headset. It will come in handy. You will also have to buy a stand for each microphone.
Mixer: In the minimum configuration, it should have 2 balanced and 4 unbalanced inputs plus at least one stereo input per channel. You also need at least one monitor output. This is the minimum configuration; if you are going to immediately write two or more performers in this studio at the same time, buy an 8-channel mixer with two subgroups at once - you won't be mistaken. And - no effects built into the mixer! At least, if you don't plan to use the equipment for road shows.
An effects processor is, first of all, a reverb with fairly flexible settings or at least a dozen preset options-presets.
You will need high-quality near-field monitors, at least 45 W, reproducing in the frequency range from 40 to 24000 Hz.
Step 3
And finally, the wires to connect all this. You will need a lot of them and with a margin. Take branded, with shielding; it is best, of course, to buy high-quality wires, professional connectors and solder it yourself.
Switch the output of the audio card and microphones to the mixer input, the outputs from the mixer to the card input, near-field monitors - to the monitor connectors, the effects processor - to the “gap” of the mixer (send-return). You can start.
