Since ancient times, the mirror has been considered a mystical object with magical properties and some power. A huge number of beliefs and fortune-telling are associated with mirrors. However, many myths, such as: you cannot look in a broken mirror, otherwise there will be trouble, have no real basis. At the same time, the fear of antique mirrors is gradually becoming a thing of the past, and artificially aged mirrors become a sign of discerning taste. Today, an aged mirror is a real trend in interior design.

Instructions

Step 1

To age a mirror, it is necessary to work with the reverse side of the object. Begin by scribbling the pattern over the foil with a needle. You can use a sharp razor. The pattern on the back of the mirror can be either chaotic or special stencil. It will create the effect of time cracks, which then paint over with any paint to match, for example, gilding.

Step 2

You can treat the back of the mirror with acid, which will corrode part of the reflective layer. Then also paint the resulting voids with paint.

Step 3

One easy way to age a mirror is to rub it on the back with sandpaper, then silver it with gold and paint.

Step 4

Designers also use such a method as backside firing. The paint burns very naturally, then the mirror is also covered with gold on the reverse side and painted.

Step 5

Finally, aging the frame of your mirror is enough to give it an antiquity effect. Paint it with the desired color. Wait until dry. Rub with a candle (the wax should cover the bulges of the frame, its corners). Then paint the frame in a different color. When it's dry, rub it hard with a rag to remove the wax layer. The antique mirror is ready.
