Valery Yakovlevich Leontiev was born in 1949 in the small village of Ust-Usa in the Komi Republic. His family was not rich, had nothing to do with musical creativity. Yakov Stepanovich and Ekaterina Ivanovna Leontiev, the parents of the future celebrity, had a zootechnical education and came to Komi to work. They did not even think that the son would choose a career as an artist.

My father was engaged in reindeer herding, was a veterinarian. His homeland is the Arkhangelsk region. Soon after the birth of their son, the whole family moves to their father's homeland. In addition to Valery, the eldest daughter Maya was growing up in the family. Life practically in a remote tundra did not give the boy the opportunity to get a good education. Until the age of 12, Valery practically did not study.

In 1961, the family moved again and stayed in the small town of Yuryevets in the Ivanovo region. Valery enters school and at the same time participates in the rehearsals of the choir. The scene attracted the young man from childhood. He loved to dance, sing, attended a drama club. The entire environment of the family understood that the boy had a natural talent for music. However, life in a poor family did not allow Valery to even dream of the stage and career of an artist.

After finishing the 8th grade, Valery decided to enter the radio technical school in Murom, but he failed the exams and was forced to return to his native school. Studying in high school gave Valery the opportunity to dream of the sea. He decided to enter the Far Eastern Oceanic College. However, his family did not have money for the train, and this dream had to be abandoned.

Remembering his passion for music, the future artist went to conquer the capital and applied for the music department at GITIS. However, deciding that he would not pass the exams, he took the documents and returned home. While living in Yuryevets, Valery studied various professions, but he could not find his place.

After a while, Valery leaves for Vorkuta and enters the evening department of the branch of the Leningrad Mining Institute. Simultaneously with his studies, he works at the Research Institute of Foundations and Underground Structures. The young man leaves the university in his third year. Work at the institute gave Valery the opportunity to participate in an amateur art group, to perform on stage.

Valery Leontiev's career

The debut of the future famous artist took place in Vorkuta in 1971. Valery Leontyev took second place at the Song - 71 music competition. A year later, he gives his recital at the Vorkuta House of Culture for miners and builders. In 1972 Valery takes part in the festival - competition of the city of Syktyvkar. As a result of the competition, he, as the winner, was sent to study at the Moscow All-Union Creative Workshop of Variety Art. After studying for only a year, he returns to Syktyvkar.

In 1978, Valery Leontiev received a diploma of education, graduating from the correspondence department of the Leningrad Institute of Culture. In 1979, the singer began working at the Gorky Philharmonic. Then he goes to a music competition in Yalta, which he wins with the song "In Memory of a Guitarist".

In the summer of 1980, the singer was awarded the Golden Orpheus music award. The 80s gave Valery Leontiev many music prizes and awards. This is the heyday of the popularity and career of the artist. In the 90s, Valery Leontiev repeatedly takes part in the filming of films. He also auditioned for a role in a movie, which was supposed to be filmed at the Mir station, but the artist did not pass for medical reasons.

The press attributed many novels to Valery Leontyev. However, the artist married once and for life. Valery's wife Lyudmila Isakovich lives in Miami and sees her husband no more than three months a year. The couple has no children. As the singer himself said, his wife was against the child.
