New Year is perhaps the most magical holiday of the year. Preparation for it begins long before the event itself and fills us with joyful expectation of a miracle. With all the abundance of Christmas tree decorations in stores, I want to create a small festive little thing with my own hands.

It is necessary

  • - wool for wet felting,
  • - threads,
  • - synthetic winterizer,
  • - a needle for dry felting,
  • - needle for coarse felting,
  • - stocking or polyamide tights,
  • - a sheet of whatman paper or cardboard.

Instructions

Step 1

In order to save wool for felting, a synthetic winterizer will serve as the basis of the ball. Roll a fairly tight cylinder from a small rectangular piece, fold the edges, roll the material again. Continue this way until you achieve the desired size. Pierce the resulting blank with a needle and thread, with a knot at the end. Wrap the ball evenly on all sides to maintain a stable round shape.

Step 2

Now cover the padding polyester ball with wool for wet felting. Pull off tufts of wool and apply them in a circle. Make several even layers, and each next layer should be approximately perpendicular to the previous one.

There should be 3-5 such layers of wool, the main thing is that even barely noticeable bald spots are not left anywhere, through which the base is visible, and the wool does not lie in bumps. A dry felting needle should be used to filter the wool so that it acquires an even more regular shape and adheres to the base.

Step 3

From whatman paper or cardboard, twist a tube with a diameter slightly larger than your woolen ball, put the stocking on it to the end. Put the workpiece inside, remove the pipe, so the wool on the next New Year's ball will not be knocked out. Tie the stocking neatly next to the ball, being careful not to catch some of its fur in a knot.

A single performance, of course, is always appreciated, but in this case 3-5 balls can be put in one stocking, tying knots after each, as well as using several old stockings, golfs, tights, if any.

Step 4

Put all the assembled structures in the washing machine (to save money, load a regular wash with them), wash with powder as usual. When the wash is finished, release the blanks from the stocking. The wool will be woven into the stocking, but this should not scare you, it will not flake off. Dry the balls on a battery or a hairdryer, if elongated ponytails of wool remain from the knots of the stocking - cut them with scissors.

Step 5

In this way, you can get one-color Christmas balls, and if you vary the colors of the wool when applying bunches to the synthetic winterizer, you will get motley balls. Ready-made toys can be trimmed with braid, ribbons, rhinestones. From a bright ribbon with a bow, make a loop, with which you then hang the Christmas ball on the tree.
