Format is a way of recording information, denoted by three to four letters after a period in the file name. The volume and quality of the recorded information often depend on this characteristic. The most common formats of sound files are.mp3,.flac,.wav, etc. You can change the format using a special program - a sound editor.

Step 1
Any audio editor is suitable for work, since format change is provided as one of the basic functions in any program. Therefore, when choosing, be guided by the requirements and limitations of your operating system and your own taste. However, the most popular sound editors are Adobe Audition and Sony Sound Forge. They support the use of various additional settings and programs, allowing you to change not only the format, but also the sound itself. However, if your system is not fast enough, you can opt for simpler editors such as Audacity.
Step 2
After installing the editor, launch it. Register and activate upon request with a dedicated code. Open a new project (some editors will automatically open a clean project on first launch). You don't need to use the record buttons now, so you don't need to activate the track the track is on. Moreover, do not press the record button so as not to accidentally erase the original file.
Step 3
Drag and drop the file you want to recode. Release it by reaching one of the tracks in the editor. The file will open as a sample. Approach its beginning to the point 0.00.000 - the beginning of the track. You can use the File menu instead of this operation. Click the "Open" button, then in the window find the folder where the file is located, and double-click on it.
Step 4
Open the File menu again. Find the line "Export", select the "Audio" option. Select a file format, enter a name, specify a folder. If the format is different from the original, you can save it in the same folder with the original and under the same name: the computer will count the files as different.
