Topiary in translation means "tree of happiness". This is a great gift option for a wedding or birthday. If you decide to make it yourself, then know that the basis of any topiary is a ball. It can be made from scrap materials.

Ball of newspapers. Take old newspapers, crumple them up. Crumple until you have a tight ball. Wrap the next newspaper around the already formed ball. Pay attention to get a round shape. Then take a stocking and tuck the resulting lump into it. Tie the bottom with threads. Check the resulting shape, if you need to tighten the stocking. Paint with spray paint or acrylics in the color of the upcoming topiary.

Instead of a stocking, you can use cling film to wrap the ball. If on top you glue the topiary decorations on hot glue, then the film must be additionally wrapped with threads.

Ball in papier-mâché technique. Inflate a small balloon. Pour PVA glue into a bowl. Take newspaper or paper, tear off small pieces from them, dip them in glue and apply to the balloon. After reaching the thickness of the paper layer 1 cm, let the glue dry and pierce the ball. Paint the resulting ball in the desired color.

Polyurethane foam ball. Take a strong plastic bag, squeeze the polyurethane foam into the bag with gloved hands. When it hardens, remove the resulting lump and trim it with a vegetable peeler or knife until you get a ball shape. It is very convenient to stick elements of topiary on toothpicks into such a ball.

Styrofoam ball. If you have packaging from a refrigerator and other large household appliances, then you can cut out a foam ball. To do this, cut a small piece and, as in the previous version, cut a ball out of it, trying to achieve a round shape.

Sisal ball. First, crumple a small ball of newspaper, then apply sisal on top and tie it with threads in color to the ball. The resulting tree can be additionally decorated, but in itself it already looks impressive.

Moss ball. Apply moss to the finished foam ball and glue it on hot glue. The result is a ball made of natural materials, well suited to eco-friendly compositions.

You can use plastic balls for children's dry pools or rattan balls sold in interior stores.
