If you suddenly realize that old jeans no longer fit your size, or if you want to update your wardrobe for the summer, you do not have to go to the store for new things - you can alter old jeans, turning them into elegant breeches. Cropped trousers look stylish and neat, and are suitable for both a summer walk and a working office environment.

Instructions

Step 1

Take the jeans you want to modify and use a ripper or nail scissors to open the seam that runs along the bottom edge of the legs. Iron the bottom edge to keep it flat and not bent.

Step 2

Many jeans are sewn flared so that they look more graceful on the figure. If your jeans are also flared, turn them inside out, open the side seams and make the legs straight by drawing fine straight lines from the beginning of the flare to the bottom edge. The lines should be perpendicular to the bottom edge and at a 90-degree angle with it. Cut off any excess, leaving seam allowances, and sew the jeans along the new side seam lines.

Step 3

Turn the jeans over to the right side again and draw fine lines on the hem of the bottom edge at a distance of 2.5 cm from the cut. Then draw a line along which the cuff of the leg will be folded at a distance of 5 cm from the previous line.

Step 4

Fold each leg along the marked lines and try on jeans - if the resulting breeches seem too long for you, trim them even further by cutting off the bottom edge, and then sketch out new fold lines. Once you have reached a suitable length for the breeches, overcast the bottom cut, fold it inside out and pin it with pins.

Step 5

Sew the bottom of each leg twice, 5-7mm from the fold, then straight along the hem line. Fold the wide edge of the leg up along the cuff line. Sew the cuffs along the crotch seams with a double backstitch.
