Bias binding is a very common way of processing parts. It is sold in shops that sell sewing goods. However, it is not always possible to choose a trim from the same fabric as your dress and even matching in color. Finding the right quality steering wheel can take a lot of time. So in many cases it is faster to make a bias inlay with your own hands, especially if it should be of the same fabric as the product.

It is necessary

  • - a piece of fabric of the required quality;
  • - ruler;
  • - a pencil or a sharply sharpened bar of soap;
  • - scissors;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - threads to match the color of the fabric.

Instructions

Step 1

Place a piece of fabric in front of you so that the shared thread is strictly vertical and the transverse thread is horizontal. Use a ruler to draw a line at an angle of approximately 45 ° to the threads of the weave. At a distance of about 3 cm, draw another line parallel to the first. Since a standard stationery ruler is about this wide, it’s best to simply trace around the top and bottom.

Step 2

Cut out the strip. It is more convenient to cut the fabric with tailor's long scissors. If you make a rulik, for example, from leather, then take a sharp boot knife. In this case, you need to cut along a metal ruler and on a board. For convenience, you can also draw a middle line on the seamy side, but this is not necessary. Fold the long edges of the strip on the wrong side to the middle. Try to keep it level. Iron the folds. A stiff fabric roll can be pre-sewn in the middle of the folds.

Step 3

Fold the strip in half so the long edges are inside. Iron the roll of fabric that does not hold its shape well along the fold. Sew it close to the edge. In most cases, ironing is not necessary, the steering wheel should be convex.

Step 4

It happens that the cut of the product is immediately processed with an oblique inlay, without intermediate operations. The first few steps are performed in exactly the same way as in the first method. Draw and cut a strip, fold the long edges towards the middle of the seamy side. Fold the strip in half and press the fold, but don't overstretch it yet.

Step 5

Insert a cut of the product between the folds of the roll. Baste the binding and stitch close to the edge. If you are processing a cut of a leather product in this way and the machine does not take a similar thickness, sew the binding by hand. This must be done twice to make the seam look like a machine stitch. For the first time sew the line with a needle-forward seam with 0.5mm stitches and the same spacing between them. A second time sew a seam through the same holes, placing the stitches in between.

Step 6

Quite often, oblique strips are used in a different way. Cut out a strip. Apply it to the cut of the product so that the front sides touch. Baste and stitch in the piping. Fold the strip and the fabric, wrong sides together, and iron the strip. Fold it in half and iron it too. Baste the edge and stitch to the product, or sew it with a blind seam.
