Rowing and boating is an interesting activity that requires special accessories and items, without which such a hobby will become impossible. If you are boating or kayaking, you will definitely need paddles to steer your boat on the surface of the water. While some people have the opportunity to purchase oars from a specialty shop in a big city, others have to make such things on their own.

Step 1
In order to make a comfortable oar out of wood, you do not need much time. You can easily find the materials you need, and you can also make a paddle in any conditions - even at home. The high speed of work also speaks in favor of this method of making oars - you do not have to process materials for a long time in order to subsequently get one oar. The only drawback of wooden oars is their fragility and relatively large weight (up to 1800 g).
Step 2
Prepare two even wooden slats with a section of 20x30 mm. You will also need epoxy resin, fiberglass, a piece of waterproof plywood 500x250 mm and 4 mm thick, and a pine block 20x20x100 mm.
Step 3
Cut the paddles of the oars out of the plywood sheet. Make sure the plywood is of proper quality and free of knots and holes. Guide the plywood fibers across the paddle. Mark the outlines of the blade on the plywood, and then cut it out with a jigsaw. Sand the blade on both sides, sandpaper the edges.
Step 4
Take a plane and give the slats a rounded shape. Chip and sand them. Cut off the excess length - determine the length of the oars in accordance with your height and landing on the boat or catamaran.
Step 5
Assemble the oar blank with screws and epoxy glue. Saw out the oar handle from a pine block, saw through a special groove in it and cut off the end of the oar handle. Use screws and glue to secure the handle to the handle.
Step 6
Finish the oar - use a rasp and sanding paper, finalize the shape of the handle, polish it and clean out the grip attachment to the handle. Cover the paddle blade with fiberglass in two layers.
Step 7
Then cut a tape 20-30 mm wide from fiberglass and wrap the oar handle with an overlap, then crosswise wrap the handle to the handle attachment with it to strengthen this place. After that, rewrap with fiberglass tape the place where the handle is attached to the blade.
Step 8
Sand the surface of the fiberglass padded blade with sandpaper, then re-polish the entire paddle. Sheathe its bottom with a strip of aluminum 1.5-2 mm thick and 20-30 mm wide. Secure the aluminum with 5-6mm copper rivets. Putty and prime the surface of the oar. Paint it with waterproof paints if desired.
