You can cast almost any shape or statue out of plaster, but you need a suitable shape for that. You can make molds for casting yourself from plaster, cement, concrete, wood, metal, glue and other materials, the choice of which depends on the number of copies required and the model.

It is necessary

  • - model;
  • - shield;
  • - lubricant (oil or petroleum jelly);
  • - dry paint;
  • - water;
  • - dry gypsum of fine and coarse grinding;
  • - metal fork or hairbrush.

Instructions

Step 1

If you need to make a mold based on a clay, clay, or plaster model, use plaster. Please note that this form will be a one-time draft.

Step 2

Dilute the first layer: take 3-7 grams of dry paint, 1 liter of water and a little gypsum solution, mix until a homogeneous thick mass is obtained. Note that excess paint will soften the plaster and make it difficult to break the mold.

Step 3

Use coarse plaster for the second layer of the rough mold. Dilute enough mixture to cover the model by 30 mm (for large models - at least 50 mm).

Step 4

Find a suitable shield and coat it with grease (oil or Vaseline), spray the model lightly with water. Support the model horizontally on the backboard.

Step 5

If the model is made of clay, achieve by moisturizing a matte shade and a little softening. Keep in mind that dry clay is capable of absorbing water strongly and at the same time increasing its volume. Therefore, remove excess water from the grooves with a brush.

Step 6

Apply the first colored plaster coat to the model and spread it evenly with a spatula or hand over the entire surface. Make sure that the plaster fills in any depressions and irregularities. Spread the plaster in one direction to be able to adjust the layer thickness (3-8 mm).

Step 7

As soon as the solution begins to harden, quickly scratch the surface with a metal fork or comb (to help the layers set better). To strengthen the shape, you can attach a wire reinforcement, it's okay if it protrudes outward.

Step 8

After the first coat has completely cured, apply a second coat of plaster. First, spread the required amount with a spatula, then spread, adding new portions if necessary.

Step 9

When the plaster mold is completely solid, remove it from the model. To do this, carefully insert wooden wedges between them and add a little water (it will help soften the clay). Gradually loosen the model in the mold, insert new wedges, add water again. After a while, you will be able to remove the plaster mold without damaging the model.

Step 10

Clean the mold from the remains of clay, rinse under running water. To make it easier to use, cover the inner surface with birch lye or alcohol varnish.
