If you are just starting to compose or play music using a computer, you may have to face the need to slow down a particular piece of music composition or sound more than once. You can slow down your music by stretching the sound waves, changing the pitch, or editing the playback speed. These tasks can be handled by so-called audio editors, or computer programs designed to edit digital audio files.
It is necessary
A composition or piece of music to slow down. Computer with audio editor or DJ turntables
Instructions
Step 1
Install any audio editor. Launch it and open the track, part of which you want to slow down. Select the required segment of the sound wave by placing the cursor at the beginning of the segment, holding down the left mouse button and dragging it to the end of the segment. It could be an entire song, a guitar solo, a five-second drum beat, or any other piece.
Step 2
Copy the selection into a new session (new file) of your audio editor. In the menu, select the option “Stretch” and enter a time value longer than the original. In case your audio editor does not have this option, you can edit the pitch and enter a lower value. A higher pitch value speeds up playback, a lower value slows it down.
Step 3
Play the modified passage. If the speed does not suit you, undo the previous action and edit the fragment again until the speed is suitable.
Step 4
If you have a DJ turntable, you can slow down the song without using a computer. Place a disc or record in the player and adjust the playback speed. If the speed is already at minimum, pull down on the pitch control. Pull the pitch knob up to speed up playback.
