To participate in online games, the ports used by the game program must be open on the computer. The computer's firewall usually blocks all connections not added to the exclusion list, so the program cannot connect to the game server.
Instructions
Step 1
In most cases, after starting the game, the firewall displays a message stating that this program is blocked and offers to block it, unblock it, or create your own rule for this connection. Usually it is enough to select the "Unblock" option, and no more problems with the firewall will arise. The program freely opens the ports that it needs to work.
Step 2
If you, using the standard Windows firewall, did not make the right choice in time, and the program was blocked, add it to the list of exclusions. To do this, open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Windows Firewall". Select the Exceptions tab and click the Add Program button. Then, through the "Browse" menu, select the required program and click OK.
Step 3
Sometimes a situation arises when even a program added to the list of exceptions cannot properly connect to the server. In this case, you should open specific game ports in the firewall. Open the Firewall settings again through the Control Panel, on the "Exceptions" tab, click the "Add Port" button. In the window that appears, enter the name of the port (it can be anything) and its number. Click OK. Pay attention to the connection protocol - usually TCP is used.
Step 4
In the standard Windows firewall, you can open and close ports through the command line. For example, you need to open port 2234. To do this, run the command line: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Accessories" - "Command line". Enter the command: netsh firewall add portopening TCP 2234 system and press Enter. Port 2234 will be opened, the command line will report this with the output OK. It will be marked as system in the firewall exceptions list. You can remove it from the exclusion list or close it via the command line by running the command: netsh firewall delete portopening TCP 2234.
Step 5
Remember that open ports are potentially dangerous. If there are vulnerabilities in the program that opens the port, a hacker can infiltrate your computer. Open ports are found out by scanning them.
