Step 1
Make a starting loop. Take the hook in your right hand by the "cheeks" or like a pencil, and the thread (yarn) in your left. Turn the beard of the hook towards you. Make an air loop. Place the working thread from the yarn skein onto the hook. Depending on the pattern, the thread is thrown either behind the hook or in front of it. Insert the barb of the crochet hook into the starting loop. Pull the sewing thread towards you through the start loop. A new “initial loop” remains on the hook, and an “air loop” behind the hook.
