Comics about mutant people, whom nature has endowed with unique superpowers, the Marvel company began to release back in 1963. In 2000, this story was transferred to the big screen and, in the wake of growing audience interest, 11 films about the adventures of a team of superheroes have already been released. In the summer of 2019, the premiere of the 12th part, which was called "X-Men: Dark Phoenix", is expected.
Plot
In the previous part "X-Men: Apocalypse", which was released in 2016, the action took place in the early 80s, or rather - in 1983. The new series will take viewers almost a decade forward - in 1992. After saving the world from the mutant En Sabah Nur, the X-Men turned into national heroes, now they are entrusted with the most dangerous and risky missions.
At the beginning of the film, they will travel into space to free the astronauts trapped in the NASA shuttle. At any moment, the spaceship can be destroyed by a solar flare, but a team of superheroes manages to save everyone except the captain. Among the X-Men, there are also victims: the mutant Jean Gray falls under the influence of destructive radiation. As a result, the girl loses control over her abilities and turns into a Phoenix. Now her former comrades-in-arms must decide what to do with the new incarnation of Jin - to spare or to destroy. Their opinions are divided, because not only the life of one of the proven team members is at stake, but the fate of all mankind. Meanwhile, a mysterious alien is trying to manipulate Phoenix …
As the title suggests, Jean Gray's character will be the main focus of the new film. As in the previous part, the role of a mutant with telepathic abilities will be played by the young star of "Game of Thrones" - actress Sophie Turner. In addition, in the first shots of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, viewers will see little Jean, who is in a car accident with her parents. As a result, the girl is left an orphan and finds refuge in the Institute for Gifted Teens, which was founded by Professor X. While communicating with her, the owner of the estate, who possesses a powerful telepathic gift, erases information about the death of her parents from Jin's memory.
Judging by the eventful plot and fragments of trailers, X-Men fans will find a lot of secrets, mysteries, special effects and confrontations. But without these components in the film adaptation of comics, of course, you can not do.
Actors, Trailer, Premiere
In X-Men: Dark Phoenix, there are no significant changes to the cast from the previous installment. Since the action takes place in the 90s, the performers of the roles of mutants in their youth will reappear on the screen. The young professor Charles Xavier will be reincarnated as James McAvoy, while his eternal rival Magneto in his prime will be played by Michael Fassbender. Dennifer Lawrence will once again become the ageless beauty Mystic, and the role of her fan of the mutant Beast will be played by Nicholas Hoult.
For the second time in the X-Men film series, actress Alexandra Shipp will appear. She got the character Storm. This mutant woman made her comic book debut years ago as the first black superhero. In adulthood, her image was embodied on the screen by Halle Berry, and in the last two films she gave way to a younger colleague. Also, actors Ty Sheridan, Evan Peters, Cody Smith-McPhee will take part in the new project for the second time. In addition, a pleasant surprise awaits the audience in the form of Jessica Chastain, who got the small role of an alien influencing Phoenix.
Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain
It is worth noting that the premiere of "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" was postponed several times, so the creators fueled the interest of viewers with the release of several dynamic trailers. The first of them was released at the end of September 2018, and the last one - in mid-April 2019. The director's chair was retained by Simon Kienberg, who previously worked on most of the X-Men films.
In anticipation of the premiere, which will take place in the United States on June 7, 2019, the creators of the franchise are seriously talking about filming the continuation of the adventures of young versions of mutant superheroes. But the final decision, of course, will depend on the amount of box office receipts. Incidentally, Russian viewers will see X-Men: Dark Phoenix a day earlier than Americans. In our country, the screening of a fantastic action movie starts on June 6.
