Sanguine crayons are prized for their beautiful reddish brown color, which is delicate and natural enough to depict skin tone. However, sanguine is also suitable for other types of drawing. To use all the resources of this material, you need to master a few basic rules for its application.

Instructions

Step 1

Pick up the paper you will draw on. A fairly dense, textured material will do. The more the "grain" of the paper is revealed, the more heterogeneous the line drawn by the sanguine will be. A drawing applied to tinted paper will look spectacular. Choose a shade that will match exactly the tone of the crayon that you will use - make a few trial strokes on the back of the sheet.

Step 2

As a rule, the drawing is applied immediately with crayons. This material does not require ideally accurate construction, priority is given to the picturesque sketch. However, if you are not sure that you can correctly convey the shape of the object the first time, draw a sketch with a simple pencil. Use a hard pencil (2T or 4T) and draw lines by barely touching the sheet. Light strokes can be covered with a sanguine. If the contours of the pencil sketch turn out to be too dark and noticeable, lighten it with a nag eraser. It is undesirable to use a regular eraser: it will remove the top layer of the paper, which will be noticeable in the finished drawing.

Step 3

One way to create a sanguine drawing is shading. Practice putting strokes on a sheet of equal squares. Create vertical lines in the first square, horizontal lines in the second. Then practice oblique hatching and overlapping strokes in a semicircle. Next, work on the thickness of the line. Draw a line with the sharp edge of the chalk for the thinnest line. Then draw a few with the back, flat side. Also check what stroke the side of the sanguine will give.

Step 4

Learn to adjust the pressure on the crayon to create strokes of varying saturation. Rub the lines with your finger, cotton swab or special rubbing - this also changes the color depth and transparency of the layer.

Step 5

When creating a painting with a sanguine, use either one of the methods, shading or rubbing, or a combination of them. Also, this material goes well with white chalk and charcoal. The first one can lighten certain areas, the second one can darken. The finished drawing is not fixed by anything, therefore, to preserve it in the album, transfer the sheets with tracing paper. On the wall, the drawing made by the sanguine should be under the glass.
