Pyrography is a very ancient skill that has been known to man for many hundreds of years. Having barely learned how to use fire, people began to burn wood with a red-hot metal tool, creating bizarre drawings. Much later, furniture decorated with graceful scorched patterns gained popularity.
Now pyrography is available not only to skilled craftsmen of the Middle Ages, because any person can purchase a device for burning and use it. Moreover, to master this skill and create beautiful products, it is not at all necessary to be able to draw beautifully. In pyrography, human qualities such as accuracy, perseverance and hard work are rather important. And imagination will allow you to come up with new patterns and find original ideas.
While you don't need to spend a lot of money on this hobby, you can profit from it. After all, things made by hand, and even more so from such an environmentally friendly material as wood, are always in demand. In addition, you can always make an original gift for your friends or family, pleasantly surprising them.
To do pyrography, you first need a high-quality pyrographic device, in other words, a burner. For a beginner, the most common domestic device created for children's creativity is perfect. As a rule, the quality of these products is good, they are reliable and extremely easy to use. Such a pyrograph is inexpensive, but you can find it in a children's store or in stores that specialize in the sale of goods for a wide variety of creativity.
Now you need wooden products on which you will burn beautiful ornaments, drawings or inscriptions. A variety of cutting boards, rolling pins and kitchen spatulas are ideal. It is best if they are made of wood such as linden or elm. After all, not every tree is suitable for pyrography, for example, oak is too hard and it is almost impossible to burn anything on it. If you want to burn out a picture that you plan to insert into a frame in the future, then prepare small plywood of standard sizes.
In the event that you do not have great artistic ability, you should look for suitable motives in books and magazines. If you do not have suitable literature at home, you can visit the library and find books on the folk crafts of the past centuries. Having made a photocopy of the pattern you like, you can further use it in your work. You can transfer the ornament to the tree using carbon paper.
If you are good at drawing, you can draw directly on a wooden surface with a simple pencil. Once the burn is complete, you can easily remove all the pencil lines with the eraser.
Burn out slowly and with care, as the tip of the pyrograph is very hot. The depth and intensity of the lines can vary depending on what effect you want to achieve. After finishing burning, you can color the resulting drawing using gouache, acrylic or watercolors for this. The brightest of them are, of course, acrylic, and the most transparent are watercolor. The finished product needs to be varnished, it is best to use acrylic varnish for this, since it does not smell at all and, moreover, dries extremely quickly. You can choose both matte and glossy.
Pyrography is a great hobby that will make you feel like a real artist and designer. Indeed, with the help of a burning device, you can decorate your home with beautiful and unique handmade products.
