Since ancient times, humanity has been dreaming of stars. Distant planets and other civilizations interested the minds of people long before the very possibility of space travel emerged. People are desperately looking for confirmation of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence in ancient manuscripts and legends, again and again continuing to peer into the endless night sky in the hope of getting answers. And while ufologists around the world are trying to find evidence of scientific theories, representatives of the cinema are making films about UFOs and guests from outer space, which definitely deserve the attention of the viewer.

Films about space and aliens are an ongoing success among moviegoers. Interest in this topic is fueled from year to year by the emerging messages about contacts and numerous dubious videos from the Internet, and the development of modern technologies promises an early disclosure of the secrets of millennia. Space is a highly demanded and urgent topic, and this fact could not but be used in the film industry.

The best films about aliens

It would seem that films about aliens are a trend of recent decades, which arose simultaneously with the development of computer technologies and special effects, but the first filming of films about UFOs started long before the mass introduction of computers. In 1953, the screen version of H. Wells's cult fantastic story The War of the Worlds was released - undoubtedly a cinematic masterpiece of its time.

Three years later, picking up the wave of the film's success, a film entitled "Earth against flying saucers" was shown on the screens of the United States. Both of these films have inspired a generation of directors and screenwriters and marked the beginning of a new era in the world's cinematography. Perhaps, if you choose a film of the last decades, which had an equally strong influence on the modern genre of space fiction, then you should give preference to the 1996 film "Independence Day" with Will Smith in the title role.

The creators offer their predictions of the possible interaction of earthlings and aliens, which, however, are rarely optimistic. Most of the filmed films about aliens belong to the horror and thriller genres, although there are exceptions. For example, S. Spielberg's film "Alien", which has been watched by more than one generation of children around the world, the good 1987 family comedy "Batteries Not Supplied" or the cult franchise "Men in Black". Of course, the theme of space and alien invasion is reflected in the animation. Among the best cartoons are DreamWorks Animation's full-length Monsters vs. Aliens, as well as Pixar's ingeniously funny short film Abduction.

The best TV series about aliens

The theme of aliens has been used more than once in the creation of multi-part television shows. The most significant project is the mid-1980s production of V (Victoria), a mini-series about the invasion of reptilian aliens on Earth under the guise of cooperation with humanity. In 2009, the studio of the ABC TV channel released a remake of the series, called "Visitors", which also had a great influence on the development of the genre.

The most iconic series of the last century, which changed the idea of the boundaries of cinema, is undoubtedly the legendary sci-fi project The X-Files. Among the most successful multi-part UFO films are "4400", "Collapsed Skies" and "Revolution".
