It seems that taking pictures of men should follow the same scheme as women. In practice, however, it turns out to be more difficult. If the image is usually idealized when shooting women, then in portraits of the stronger sex it is often required to convey the individual features of the model. How do you photograph men?

Step 1
Get over the stiffness of the model. Men are photographed much less often than women. Many of them have hardly a hundred photographs in their photo albums: children's, army, wedding, and then only serious photographs for documents. Try to get the man to talk so that he relaxes and does not stand still. Often young people simply do not know and do not understand what they need to do. Explain to the model the process that will take place. You can jointly come up with a photography scenario.
Step 2
Come up with a suitable look. To do this, use the interior, costumes, props. What quality are you trying to convey through photography: seriousness, purposefulness, mystery, severity, masculinity? Find the right pose. To convey masculinity, you can use a certain position of the body in space: an arm rest just below the waist, a leg on a chair, fingers at the chin, and others. Props can be a cane, umbrella, hat, cigar, jacket removed.
Step 3
Pick a background. For women, light and blurry decorations are often chosen, but a man will look more impressive against a dark background. If you put the model in half-turn, then you can create a strong image through the play of muscles, angular lines and a head fit.
Step 4
Experiment with lighting. If you are not doing a promotional photo of men's cosmetics or sporting goods, which should have soft contours and even light, then there is plenty of scope for activity. Add contrast and harsh lights to convey prominent cheekbones, a wide chin, and an angular masculine look. To do this, use honeycombs and tubes. A ring flash can be used to make the portrait look flatter and free from shadows. Here, the facial features are erased by excess lighting. The even and gentle light of the softboxes is used to shoot men's cosmetics and more gentle and romantic looks.
Step 5
Take more pictures. After a couple of hours of work, you will have ten to twenty photographs that you will not be ashamed to show people. Choose only the best. Whether to process photos or not is up to you.
