Gladiolus is a favorite of the flower garden in late summer and early fall. It was at this time that his gorgeous sword flowers bloom. Thanks to the shape of the leaves that resemble this weapon, it got its name ("gladius" in Latin means "sword"). You can admire the plant not only in autumn, but all year round, if you make a flower from corrugated paper.
Required materials and tools
Corrugated paper is flexible and pliable; flowers made from it are especially beautiful. To make gladiolus, you need green paper, as well as red, yellow, pink or purple (the shade depends on what color the flowers and buds will be). In addition, prepare a wire, a wooden kebab skewer, a newspaper or magazine sheet, PVA glue, a metal knitting needle and scissors.
Make blanks. Cut the green paper into rectangles 2, 5x10 cm (7 pieces), 1x20 cm (4 pieces) and cut one strip along the length of the roll 2 cm wide. Make 7 rectangles 2, 5x10 cm and 25 elements from the paper chosen for making the flower size 5x10 cm.
Technology for making gladiolus from paper
Twist the base for the gladiolus stem. Roll a sheet of newsprint onto a knitting needle to form a tube. Glue the tip. Remove the needle, set the element aside to dry completely.
For the buds, twist the 2.5x10 cm pieces along the entire length, then fold them in half and form an oval. Twist the similar green elements slightly, also fold in half across the part and put on the bud. Spread the leaves so that part of the petal is peeking out. Wrap the underside of the bud with wire and secure it. In total, you will need 7 such elements.
Cut out the petals from parts measuring 5x10 cm in red, yellow, pink or purple, rounding one of the sides. Wrap this edge on a skewer and stretch slightly to make it wavy.
Take one element, twist it with a tube. Place the remaining 4 petals slightly lower than the first. Tighten the bottom with wire. Spread the petals. Make 5 flowers.
The gladiolus has long pointed leaves. To make it look similar, take a 20cm piece and sharpen one of the edges of each piece.
Start assembling the gladiolus. Attach the bud to the top of the stick from a newspaper or magazine sheet. Place some glue on a piece of stick and wrap a strip of green corrugated paper around the sepal and stem. Attach another bud, wrap a strip of paper around the stick again. In this way, attach all the buds.
Next, attach a flower to the stem. Wrap the sepal and part of the stick with a strip of green paper, being careful to keep the wire as invisible as possible. Place the rest of the flowers in a checkerboard pattern on the sides of the stem.
Attach all the leaf parts to a paper stick, press down lightly and secure with glue. Cut off the excess part of the stem. Shape the leaves with your hands. Correct the petals of the gladiolus flowers.
