In order to make a chain of wire, take the wire itself and heat it red-hot, the metal should become softer and more pliable. Now we will make a template, for this take a wooden plank with dimensions of 15 by 15 cm and four nails. Drive the nails into the board so that they come out from its back side by about 1 cm, and the nails should be of different thicknesses (two thick and two thin). Place the paired nails diagonally in relation to each other so that the distance between the thick ones is 3-3.5 cm, and between the thin ones 1 cm. Then go over the sharp ends of the nails with a file.

Now take the round-nose pliers and knock out a link on this template, remove the rest of the wire with a pair of wire cutters. After, when the length of the wire for one link is known, simply cut the blanks according to the given size. Remove the link from the nails, squeeze the rings with pliers, connect them with rings into curly links.

To make the rings, wind the wire around a pen or pencil and cut off each resulting turn. In general, there are a huge variety of link shape options, just turn on your imagination and go!

For the blackening process itself, prepare a mixture of sulfur and potash (ratio 1 to 3). Pound the resulting mixture with a spoon in a stainless steel ladle, then pour boiling water and lower the chain itself there, you will see how it turns black. For brass wire, blackening occurs as follows: dissolve 50 g of copper sulfate and 5 g of potassium permanganate in one liter of water. The principle of working with steel wire is as follows: heat the wire red-hot and dip it in machine oil, then cover it with nitro varnish and let it dry.
