It is customary to dress dogs of small breeds. This is not only a tribute to fashion, but also a harsh necessity. Typically, breeds such as the Yorkshire Terrier, Chinese Crested, West Highland White Terrier, and others are hypoallergenic and therefore do not have an undercoat. In summer, they need clothes to protect them from overheating, and in winter from hypothermia.
Instructions
Step 1
Small dogs even need hats to protect their heads from the cold. However, hats in the form of hoods and hoods will not work - this is how the dog's hearing becomes dull and it may get lost or not hear the owner's command. Therefore, hats for dogs are knitted with slots for the ears.
Step 2
In order to tie a hat on a dog, take measurements. The first measure is the girth of the head. The second measure is the distance between the ears. The third is the distance from the forehead (where the hat will begin) to the line between the ears. The fourth measure is the distance from the line between the ears to the base of the dog's skull. Please note that, unlike human hats, here the third and fourth measurements will not be the same, the cap will be asymmetrical. And the larger the dog, the greater the difference between these measurements should be.
Step 3
Pick up yarn. It should be warm, but not choppy. For example, children's acrylic is suitable. When buying wool, place it on your neck or the crook of your elbow and hold it for a few seconds. If there is no irritation - feel free to buy.
Step 4
You can knit a hat from two parts - front and back, but it is better to minimize the number of seams and make the hat one-piece. Start knitting from the back piece. Divide the dog's head circumference in half and multiply by the number of loops that fits in one centimeter. Knit in regular satin stitch - purl row, knit row. When you get to the base of your ears, reduce the knitting around the edges. To do this, knit two loops together. Decrease the loops until the row is equal to the distance between the ears.
Step 5
Knit the canvas, passing to the forehead. Gradually start adding loops, for this, on each side, make one yarn in front of the last loop, and in the next row knit them. Knit the product to the dog's forehead according to the measurements you took. After finishing the knit, close the knit and sew the sides of the cap to the base of the ears. Ribbons can also be sewn in these places to tie them under the dog's face, so that the hat will stay tighter.
