Step 1
Choose a fabric for your windbreaker. You must purchase two types of fabric - for the top layer and for the lining. The main properties of the upper layer of the fabric are that it should not get wet and blown out. Fleece works very well for lining. It is warm and not blown out, in addition, it is pleasant to work with it, since it does not slip when sewing. In addition to the fabric, you will need a zipper. In order to find out its length, measure the distance from the throat to the intended end of the windbreaker. Purchase a dress elastic to fit into the sleeves and hem of your windbreaker.
Step 2
Get a pattern from modern magazines or the internet. You can also make it yourself by ripping open an old jacket of a suitable size. Transfer its details to paper and then to fabric. If you are in doubt about a pattern, try to sew a product from a cheap fabric (chintz or calico). Correct any flaws in the pattern and then start sewing with good fabric.
Step 3
The pattern of the windbreaker consists of several parts - two paired shelf parts, one back, two sleeves, two collar parts and pockets. Duplicate these details from the lining material. If you want large patch pockets, then you need to process their edges and sew to the details of the shelves. The upper edge of the pockets can be lightly gathered with an elastic band - you will get an original design and convenience - even small things will not fall out of such a pocket. After that, sew the shelves to the back. Do not forget to iron while sewing - this will make the seams softer and the garment more neat. Sew on the sleeves and then sew them into the armhole.
Step 4
Now repeat all these steps from the lining fabric. You can also sew on the inner secret pockets. When you have sewn all the details, turn them inside out and insert them into the windbreaker in a seam-to-seam fashion. You can also stitch in some places to ensure that the top layer fits snugly against the lining - for example, along the seams of the sides and sleeves. Get your collar ready. To do this, sew two parts, and turn them out, leaving the neck area unstitched. Iron the collar. Sew it in over the edge of both the top layer and the back of the fabric. Sew in the zipper so that its ends also go into the collar. Sew everything on the typewriter with a finishing seam.
Step 5
Trim the cuffs and hem of the windbreaker, and tuck the elastic into them to tuck the jacket a little. This additionally protects you from wind and moisture. You can decorate the windbreaker with decorative elements, applique or embroidery.
