Instructions
Step 1
Do not choose an overly complex model if you are sewing for the first time. Take your child's measurements correctly. Whatever ready-made patterns you use, you need to know your baby's measurements for sure. In children's clothes, the measure of height and chest girth is used. To accurately take these readings, you need to measure your baby's height from head to toe. The chest circumference is measured on underwear, while the measuring tape should fit snugly, but so that the child can breathe freely.
Step 2
When comparing the received measurements with the sizes of the model you like, choose the most appropriate size. Do not rely on the sizes you are guided by when buying baby clothes. They can vary. As a rule, the dimensions of the finished patterns include allowances for free fit, and there is no particular need to measure all the details of the product.
Step 3
Choose fabric and accessories as accurately as possible, following the directions in the recommendations. The fact is that all the properties of the fabric are taken into account in the patterns and during further cutting, and in the methods of processing the product. For example, stretch and fine fabrics are cut and processed differently. In this case, buttons, zippers and rivets must match the density and texture of the material.
Step 4
Calculate fabric consumption accurately. Usually, in ready-made patterns, fabric consumption is provided only for the proposed model. If you find a suitable fabric, but it has a different width or pattern, you will not be able to use the proposed layout plan. Then you need to independently calculate the fabric. You can use the following tip: Take and fold the sheet to the width of the fabric you choose. Don't forget to consider the direction of the chain thread. Then place all the details of the pattern on it and measure how much fabric you need.
Step 5
Take your time when removing parts of the product from the pattern sheet. Read the instructions carefully and, most importantly, remember to transfer all labels and additional designations for each part of the model. Subsequently, the absence of any mark may lead to an incorrect operation.
Step 6
Pay attention to the seam allowances when cutting. Check them carefully before starting the cut. Be aware that seam allowances in magazines may vary. But there is a general rule: 1, 5 - 2cm allowances for shoulder and side seams, for a seam at the waist, middle seam and longitudinal seams of sleeves. An allowance of 1 cm provides for armholes, cuffs of sleeves, a neckline, collar details, stitching lines for the hem and facing, as well as other cuts that require a clean tuck. Leave 2-5cm for the hem.
Step 7
Sew all parts of your garment according to the step-by-step instructions. Use the additional information if you want to clarify anything about the types of seam treatments and auxiliary materials.
