Embroidery is an ancient art that still delights people with its beauty, and the skill of embroiderers invariably evokes respect and admiration. However, even the most beautiful embroidery will not look good if you do not arrange it in a suitable frame or mat. The frame can be purchased in a store or ordered in a workshop, and then covered with fabric or decorated in another way, but a handmade frame, suitable for your embroidery, will look much more individual.

Instructions

Step 1

To create a frame based on a ready-made prefabricated mat, take a piece of fabric four times the size of the future frame. Take into account the seam allowances in the fabric. The fabric should match the color and style of the embroidery, it should be thick and strong enough, and the fabric for the frame should bend well and should not be too thick or slippery.

Step 2

You will also need a sheet of heavy, stiff cardboard. Cut off its edges along a ruler with a clerical knife. You will also need a glue stick, PVA glue, a thin synthetic winterizer and an acrylic sheet. A sheet of cardboard should be 3 mm less than the length and width of the mat on all sides.

Step 3

After cutting out the cardboard part, cut out from the prepared cut of fabric two rectangular parts of the same length and width as the mat itself, taking into account the hem allowances.

Step 4

Then grease one of the sides of the mat with glue and put a piece of padding polyester on top that matches the size of the mat. In the center, cut an even rectangle in a padding polyester with scissors. On the synthetic winterizer glued to the frame of the mat, apply PVA glue and put it on the wrong side of the prepared fabric.

Step 5

Cut the corners of the fabric obliquely and fold the edges, gluing them from the inside out with PVA glue. Iron and stretch the fabric so that it evenly and tightly covers the frame with padding polyester. Be careful not to move the frame when gluing the fabric. Glue the folded edges one at a time - first the long edges, then the short ones.

Step 6

After you have pasted over the outer edges of the frame, start pasting over the edges of the inner rectangle. In the same way as in the previous case, cut off the corners of the fabric, bend the strips to the wrong side and glue with PVA glue, pulling the fabric.

Step 7

Treat the seamy side of the frame with glue and glue to the remaining piece of fabric and glue the strips-lapels with PVA glue, bending them inward.

Step 8

Then apply glue to the inside of the back of the frame and align the fold of the back and the short side of the front of the frame. Glue the two pieces together, and then cut out a rectangular piece from the acrylic sheet equal to the size of the embroidery or design. Insert the sheet into the gap left after gluing the frame.

Step 9

Place the finished glued frame under the press so that the fabric sticks more firmly and smoothes out. Make a cardboard stand for the frame, cover it with fabric and glue it to the back wall of the mat with PVA glue.
