Sewing on a flat collar

Fold-over collars are flat-lying and on a stand. The method of connecting a turn-down collar with a neckline depends on the shape of the style of this part. Cut a flat-lying collar from two parts - the bottom and the top. Reinforce the lower part with adhesive interlining to shape it. Fold right sides in and sew in, stitching along the edge and leaving the bottom cut unstitched. Trim seam allowances, cut the corners diagonally. Turn the product inside out and iron it.

An easy way to sew a collar to the neckline is to insert it between the garment and the inner trim and sew. Tie the collar along the bottom edge with a basting, fastening the ends with an overlap. Pin it to the front of the piece with pins. Cut out the piping, put it face inward along the neck and pin it off, sew all the layers on a typewriter. Remove the pins, cut the seam allowances, unscrew the facing on the product, iron and topstitch, closing the stitching seam. Wrap or fold the open edge of the facing and sew with a blind seam.

On lightweight products: blouses, dresses, shirts, there is often no piping. In this case, fix the lower layer of the collar at the neckline, leaving the upper part free. Sew on with machine stitch, press the seam inside the collar. Place the upper part of the collar over the seam, bend the cut 5-6 mm, secure with pins and machine stitch or sew by hand with blind stitches.

How to sew a collar on a stand

If your model is a turn-down collar with a detachable stand, then it will consist of a fly-off part and the stand itself. Connect the parts of the fly-off part to each other, folding them with the right side inward. Carefully align all the cuts and sweep, and then stitch, stepping back 1 cm from the edge. Unscrew the collar and straighten the corners.

Now on the racks, outline the line of attaching the detachable part. Fold the parts of the stand facing each other, insert the fly-off part of the collar between them, aligning the sewing lines, fasten everything with a basting seam or pins and lay a machine stitch.

Sew up the ends of the rack, turn it out to the right side. Iron the finished collar. Fold the lower part of the stand and the product with the right sides, lay a 1 cm wide stitch along the neckline, cut off the seam allowances, leaving 0.5 cm. Close it with the upper part of the stand, bend the cut and carefully stitch with a machine stitch, stepping back from the edge by 1-2 mm.
