Tuning a guitar in terms of technique is not at all difficult; beginners face this problem due to insufficient experience. The guitar can be tuned both with the help of instruments and by ear.
Instructions
Step 1
Stretch the strings harder if you are tuning your guitar with new nylon strings. Tune your guitar 1 tone higher and place it on a stand. After 2 hours, tune your guitar according to the rules. This method will slightly shorten the life of the nylon strings. If this method does not work for you, achieve fewer loose turns on the tuning peg by overlapping the second turn over the first.
Step 2
Tune your guitar using an electronic tuner available from any musical instrument store. If you are unable to use an electronic tuner, tune your guitar by ear. To do this, you need any tuned musical instrument (such as a tuning fork). Place the A string on the 5th fret. It should sound in unison with the tuning fork. If you are tuning your guitar to a different musical instrument, play the first octave “E” sound and make sure that the first open string is in tune with the instrument.
Step 3
Tune the rest of the strings first. Press string 2 down at the 5th fret. Check to see if it sounds in unison with the unpressed first string. Press down on the third string at the fourth fret. Achieve consonance with an unpressed second string. Press down on the fourth string at the 5th fret. Make sure to match the sound of the open third string. Press the 5th string down at the 5th fret and make it sound in unison with the unpressed 4th string. Press the 6th string down at the 5th fret and check if it is in tune with the unpressed 5th string.
Step 4
Check if the guitar tuning is correct after completing all the above manipulations. To do this, play the sound simultaneously from two strings: the first and sixth. Make sure they are in tune two octaves apart. If the strings do not sound in unison, start re-tuning the guitar from the first string using the method described above.
