The Sims is one of the most popular and best-selling game franchises in the world, and no analyst can say for sure what is the reason for this success. Obviously, the brand has undergone fantastic development. In particular, more than a dozen official add-ons and the same number of patches were released for the second part, which sharply reduce the number of errors and crashes, contributing to a more comfortable game.
Instructions
Step 1
Check the contents of the patch. There are two standard patch configurations: full and partial. The former, which is typical, update the entire game and can be installed on any version of the product, even 1.0. The latter have a smaller volume, but they only work locally - for example, updating the game from version 1.4 to 1.6. In most cases, it is preferable to use the first option, while the second should be used only if you are fully confident in the compatibility of the product version (you can find it in the lower right corner of the main menu).
Step 2
Install the official version of the game. The Sims engine is very friendly to various amateur modifications, and therefore there are a huge number of them. However, if too serious changes are made to the game (large-scale additions like The Sims 2: Harry Potter), then they can cause compatibility problems with the patch, and the product will stop working altogether. Therefore, before installing, you should make sure that all installed add-ons are of an official nature (this does not apply to clothing sets and additional items).
Step 3
The official patch comes with the installer in most cases. This means that if you download the patch from the official The Sims website or through the Origins service, the installation will be extremely simple. You will need to run the setup.exe (or install.exe) file in the downloaded archive, after which the program will itself determine the directory in which the game is placed and you will only have to confirm your agreement with the installation.
Step 4
Patches are often distributed through fan forums. In this case, it is highly likely that the installation will need to be done manually. The user should extract the files from the downloaded archive, then place them in the game folder, creating backup copies of the files being replaced - this will allow, if the downloaded fixes are not working, to return everything to its original form. After copying is complete, you can start The Sims 2: the patch will already be installed and active.
